Daily Prayer · Day 143

The Choice Before You

September 13, 2026

““This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.””Deuteronomy 30:19 NIV
Prayer Focus

Choosing faithfully when discernment has given enough clarity, but not complete certainty.

Prayer

God of Life,

There comes a moment when listening must become choosing.

I can examine the possibilities, seek counsel, wait patiently, and pray for wisdom.

But eventually, I must decide.

Your Word speaks of בָּחַר (bachar).

To choose.To select.To make a deliberate commitment.

I confess that I sometimes delay decisions because I want certainty no decision can provide.

I want to know that nothing will be lost. That no difficulty will follow. That I will never question what I chose.

But every meaningful choice closes one path as it opens another.

Teach me not to mistake the sadness of releasing one possibility for evidence that I have chosen wrongly.

Help me choose according to what gives life.

Not merely what is easiest now, but what cultivates faithfulness over time.

Not simply what protects my comfort, but what honors truth, responsibility, love, and the person You are forming me to become.

If the direction is clear enough, free me from the demand that it feel completely safe.

Let me make this choice with humility.

I may still have questions.I may need to adjust along the way.I may discover consequences I could not have predicted.

Yet I trust that Your guidance does not end once the decision is made.

You will remain with me as I live into what I have chosen.

Give me wisdom before the choice, courage within it, and faithfulness after it.

When life is set before me, teach me to choose it.

Amen.

Hebrew Word Highlight
בָּחַרbachar

To choose, select, or deliberately prefer one course over another.

In Deuteronomy 30:19, בָּחַר (bachar) presents choice as a moral and spiritual act. Israel is called to choose the way that leads to life with God. Biblical discernment does not eliminate every uncertainty before we act. It helps us recognize which choice aligns most faithfully with God’s character and commands. Choosing well means accepting responsibility for a direction and continuing to walk with God within it.
