What You Are Becoming

September 28, 2026

““Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.””1 John 3:2 NIV
Prayer Focus

Resting in the assurance that God’s unfinished work within us has a faithful destination.

Prayer

Faithful God,

I am not yet who I will be.

There are places where growth is visible and others where old patterns still return.

Some days I recognize Your work within me.

Other days I am more aware of how much remains unfinished.

But Your Word speaks of ὅμοιος (homoios).

Like.Similar in character.Bearing a recognizable resemblance.

You promise that I will be like Christ.

This hope does not depend on my ability to transform myself perfectly. It rests in Your commitment to complete what grace has begun.

Keep me from despising the unfinished places.

They are not evidence that You have abandoned the work.

Teach me to live honestly between who I have been and who You are shaping me to become.

Let me repent without losing hope.

Let me notice growth without becoming proud.

Let me remain patient without becoming passive.

When I compare myself to others, return my attention to Jesus.

He is not merely the standard I fail to reach.

He is the One whose life Your Spirit is producing within me.

Thank You that my identity is already secure as Your child, even while my character continues to mature.

I do not need to pretend that I have arrived.

I only need to remain open, responsive, and willing to follow.

One day, every part of me will reflect the likeness of Christ without resistance.

Until then, keep forming me with mercy.

I entrust both who I am and who I am becoming to You.

Amen.

Greek Word Highlight
ὅμοιοςhomoios

Like, similar, or bearing a recognizable resemblance.

In 1 John 3:2, ὅμοιος (homoios) points toward the promised completion of Christian formation. Believers are already God’s children, yet the fullness of what they will become has not been revealed. Their future is to bear the likeness of Christ. This promise allows us to face unfinished growth without despair. Our transformation is real but incomplete, and its final hope rests in God’s faithfulness rather than human perfection.
