What Was Never Mine Alone

October 19, 2026

““But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.””1 Chronicles 29:14 NIV
Prayer Focus

Worshiping God by recognizing that everything we possess first came from His hand.

Prayer

God, Giver of Every Good Thing,

I use the language of ownership easily.

My time.My strength. My money. My home, my gifts, my opportunities, my life.

Yet David looked at everything the people had given and remembered that it had come from Your hand first.

Their offering was נָדַב (nadav).

Freely given.Willingly offered.Released without compulsion.

But even their generosity began with Your generosity.

Everything I place before You is something You have already entrusted to me.

This does not make my work meaningless.

It makes my work part of grace.

You gave the ability, the breath, the opportunity, the people, and the strength that allowed fruit to grow from my effort.

Keep ownership from becoming an illusion of independence.

What I possess was never meant to end with me.

Teach me to receive without grasping.

To steward without worshiping.

To enjoy without forgetting.

To release without fear when love and obedience require it.

I praise You for daily bread and unexpected abundance.

I praise You for what money cannot purchase.

Wisdom learned over time.Friendships that carried me.Mercy that gave me another beginning.Peace that arrived before the circumstances changed.

All of it came from You.

So I return my gratitude, my generosity, and my life to the hand from which they came.

I have enough because I belong to You.

And whatever You entrust to me, let it become an offering of worship.

Amen.

Hebrew Word Highlight
נָדַבnadav

To give freely, offer willingly, or contribute from a generous heart.

In 1 Chronicles 29, נָדַב (nadav) describes the willing offerings given for the temple. David recognizes that even voluntary generosity is possible only because God provided first. Biblical worship loosens the illusion of absolute ownership. It receives every resource as a trust from God and willingly returns time, ability, wealth, and gratitude to His purposes. What we give to God has already come from His hand.
