Leaving What Was

God Who Calls Me Forward,

Yesterday may have been good.

It may have given me people I love, places where I belonged, and experiences that helped shape who I am.

But something does not have to be wrong for its season to be complete.

You told Abram to leave what was known and travel toward a land You would show him. You gave him a direction before You gave him a destination.

Your Word speaks of הָלַךְ (halakh).

To go.To walk.To move forward.

I often want to see where the road leads before I agree to take it. I want certainty before obedience and reassurance before release.

Yet some directions become clear only after the journey begins.

Show me what I am trying to carry into a season where it no longer belongs.

Perhaps it is an old expectation.A familiar role.A version of myself that once served me well.A plan I quietly assumed You would fulfill.

Give me grace to honor what was without trying to live there forever.

Leaving does not mean the past was wasted. It means I trust You to carry its wisdom forward without requiring me to carry all of its weight.

Teach me to move without becoming careless.

To release without becoming ungrateful.

To grieve what is ending without mistaking grief for disobedience.

When You say go, help me loosen my grip on what feels secure.

I may not know where every step will lead, but I know the One who is calling me.

Let that be enough to begin.
