Wisdom Beyond My Own Voice

““Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.””Proverbs 15:22 NIV
Receiving wise counsel without surrendering the responsibility to discern.
God of All Wisdom,
There are limits to what I can see from where I stand.
My experience gives me perspective, but it also gives me blind spots. My hopes can make one outcome appear better than it is. My fears can make another seem more dangerous than it is.
You did not design me to discern everything alone.
Your Word speaks of עֵצָה (etsah).
Counsel.Advice.Guidance offered for wise decision-making.
Thank You for the people who help me see what I would miss by myself.
Give me the humility to seek counsel before consequences make it necessary.
Lead me toward people who are honest enough to challenge me, mature enough to handle complexity, and faithful enough to care more about my obedience than my approval.
Keep me from gathering opinions until someone finally agrees with what I already want.
A crowd of voices is not the same as wise counsel.
Teach me to listen for the questions beneath the advice.
What am I overlooking? What might this decision cost others?Which desire is shaping my judgment? What kind of person will this choice require me to become?
Help me receive correction without defensiveness.
But do not let me make others responsible for decisions You have entrusted to me. Counsel can clarify my thinking, but it cannot replace prayer, conviction, or obedience.
Let wisdom from others become a window, not a substitute for Your voice.
When trusted counsel confirms what You have been showing me, give me courage to move.
When it exposes something I have resisted, give me grace to reconsider.
Form in me a spirit that is neither easily persuaded nor unwilling to learn.
Amen.
Counsel, advice, guidance, or a considered plan.
In Proverbs 15:22, עֵצָה (etsah) describes the wisdom gained when plans are opened to trustworthy perspectives. Scripture does not present counsel as a way to avoid personal responsibility. It is a safeguard against the limits of isolated judgment. Wise counsel helps reveal blind spots, test motives, and clarify consequences while leaving us responsible for prayerful and faithful decisions.
