The Way That Can Be Taught
September 19, 2026
““Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior.””Psalm 25:4 to 5 NIV
Seeking direction with a heart willing to be taught, corrected, and changed.
God Who Guides,
I ask You to show me the way.
But sometimes I ask as though direction were only information.
Tell me which door.Identify the right decision.Point me toward the best outcome.
David asked You to show him Your אֹרַח (orach).
Your path.Your course. The way of life You had prepared for him to learn.
He did not ask for direction alone.
He asked to be taught.
Make me teachable.
I do not want to recognize Your path only when it agrees with the one I prefer.
If Your direction requires me to reconsider an assumption, help me listen.
If it exposes a habit that cannot travel with me, help me release it.
If it asks me to move more slowly, act more honestly, or love more courageously, help me respond.
Your guidance may not simply change where I am going.
It may need to change how I walk.
Teach me the pace of Your wisdom.
Teach me the boundaries of integrity.
Teach me to recognize the difference between an open door and a wise one.
Keep me from treating my strong preferences as evidence of Your leading.
I ask for direction, but I also offer You my disposition.
Correct what makes me difficult to guide.
Soften what has become resistant.
Form within me a willingness to learn that remains even after the answer comes.
Show me Your path, Lord.
Then shape me into someone able to walk it faithfully.
Amen.
A path, course, or way of life.
In Psalm 25:4, אֹרַח (orach) refers to more than a route toward a destination. It can describe the course by which a person lives. David’s prayer joins guidance with teachability because knowing God’s path requires a willingness to be formed by God’s truth. Divine direction does not only answer, “Where should I go?” It also addresses, “How must I live as I go there?”
